Abstract

With hookup culture becoming more widespread on college campuses, there has been a significant increase in academic literature based on this phenomenon (Garcia et al., 2012; Heldmen and Wade 2010; Monto et al. 2014). However, the existing literature on hookup culture among college-aged students is substantially lacking in accounts and narratives from LGBTQ identifying students. Analyzing data from an anonymous open-ended online survey conducted with LGBTQ college students, this paper addresses this gap in the literature. This paper explores LGBTQ students’ perceptions of and orientation to the hookup culture to determine whether their experiences differ form their heterosexual and cisgender peers.
