Abstract Title

Increasing University Student Retention Through Student Involvement

Abstract

For many schools there is no easy way for students to find out how to get involved. Most institutions have organizational fairs once or twice a semester so different organizations can reach out to perspective members. However, students who cannot attend the fairs due to scheduling conflicts miss out on the information about school opportunities. There is a need for an easier way for students to find out how to get involved in their school.

Studies have revealed that when students are committed to a university, they are more likely to finish their schooling. Due to the rising cost of higher education, many institutions face student recruitment and retention challenges. According to mybrrcc.edu, the success of an institution’s retention strategy centers on addressing student’s academic and non-academic concerns. Recently, several organizations were surveyed as to how communicate with their student bodies. Amazingly, many clubs have a very difficult time attracting members even with the use of social media.

In addition, there is no platform for student organizations to share information with other clubs both within and across universities worldwide. The sharing of best practices across clubs and universities will result in strengthening student organizations.

To respond to these needs I created a company, Clubhub101, which provides a new social media platform and website which I will demonstrate during the conference. I will also present the results of a survey of KSU student organizations on how to improve 24/7 communication.
