The article describes environmental modification strategies for speech-language pathologists hoping improve the patient experience when dining in long term care facilities. Environmental stressors on patient interaction including visual overstimulation, lack of visual contrast, and auditory confusion are described. Methods of modifying visual contrast for diners, improving lighting, and modifying the acoustics of dining areas are noted.
